When selecting the appropriate gasket for replacement, start by identifying whether the gasket to be replaced is magnetic or compression (non-magnetic). Next, determine if the bottom of the gasket features a traditional flange secured by screws or flange strips, or if it is of the snap-in style (with an 'arrow' on the bottom for insertion into a retainer strip).
For magnetic gaskets, use a replacement with the correct clearance dimensions as specified for each cross-section. Ensure that the magnet in the replacement gasket aligns with the outer edge or is centered similarly to the gasket being replaced. If replacing a compression (non-magnetic) gasket, compress the gasket cushion between a minimum of 1/8" (0.3cm) and a maximum of 3/16" (0.5cm) to achieve the most effective seal. The replacement gasket doesn't necessarily have to match the appearance of the original; the key is to provide a secure seal.
